Mr egg was taken on as the gentleman's associate in aul 3. He continued to be his associate until aul 6, where he was replaced by mr cheese.
Mr egg's association with the gentleman was much more positive then mr cheese's association with the gentleman in aul 1 & 2. The gentleman didn't yell at him or hit him like he did with mr cheese.
In aul 8 we see that mr egg has written a song for the gentleman, then later in the episode the gentleman complements mr egg.
